The M&S Style Challenge Part 2: What to wear to an interview

Stepping up the career ladder and ultimately out of your everyday comfort zone can be a daunting task. That being said, this progression is a necessary one for hardworking and ambitious individuals. Learning how to style yourself correctly for an important interview could never be more essential.

Once again Inhale Fashion have teamed up with Marks & Spencer for a unique Blogger Style Challenge. The theme of the challenge surrounds that dreaded but all important task of selecting what to wear for a job interview. The M&S blogger challenge is being spread over 4 weeks, and each week M&S will provide an interview scenario that requires a certain bit of creativity in the styling stakes.

Let me explain a little bit more. As Editor of Inhale Fashion I have kindly accepted the task of modelling a brand new M&S suit and styling up that suit for specific job interview scenarios. Over a 4 week period which sees 10 other creatives battling it out to be crowned the most stylish, I will be modelling the same chosen suit each week, styling it accordingly in line with the scenarios Marks and Sparks have set. The aim is simple! “Dress good, look good, feel good, and impress the judges”

Week 2 Challenge: Stepping up the career ladder – interview for a more senior role at a corporate firm (e.g. a bank, law firm)

The Outfit Breakdown

Moving into week 2 of this style challenge I have decided to venture down the more formal route, and for good reason. An interview at a corporate firm has to be taken with the upmost seriousness. Looking stylish is important, but looking like a man who is ready to do the job is even more so.

The Suit. The M&S suit itself is once again the super slim fit suit that I sported in week 1 of this style challenge. The fit is tailored and makes for a streamline silhouette that is both modern and professional at the same time. The tone of the suit speaks that you have personality without being overly loud.

The Shirt/Tie The shirt I am wearing is from Reiss and its ivory colour really compliments the suit and adds a refinement to the outfit. I have chosen to go with the ivory shirt  because it delivers a formal look but still reamins subtly stylish. The black Tie compliments the tone of the shirt and creates a nice formal balance to the outfit. For an interview at a corporate firm, always wear a tie. Keep it understated and classy.

The Coat. The coat is from Dior and really gives the whole look that polished business- like feel about it. Every man should own a quality knee length coat. Black will never let you down in an interview situation. Think Wall street, and then proceed with confidence.

The Shoes  The shoes are from Dior. For this week’s interview scenario I have decided to go with classic dress shoes instead of last week’s more casual Chelsea Boot. You can never go wrong with a polished pair of laced dress shoes when you are heading for an important interview.

The Outcome The outcome is a refined and sophisticated look that is easy to put together. Choosing a suit that fits you correctly and then teaming it with other items that create a streamline professional finish, is key to you looking at your best and giving yourself every chance to impress your potential employers.

Have fun with fashion

Much Love
