How To Style A Sweatshirt

Men’s sweatshirts no longer have to be kept for a lazy Sunday; they have suddenly become the best way to warm up on a cold autumn’s day, so get ready to rock them all week long.

With the slight temperature drop and wet weekends, sweatshirts have suddenly made a re-appearance; back from the 90s, they are here with a vengeance. They seem to have taken over high street stores and catwalks alike and I can see why, not only are they comfortable and practical, they are now being made with the best prints around town and with an added new slimmer fit. Men’s sweatshirts are no longer ill fitting or frumpy and are far from their sporting origin.

Sweatshirts have been known previously as a sports garment, an item you would pair with tracksuit bottoms whilst warming up or something easy to throw on at half time. However with fashion giving a nod to the past sweatshirts are without a doubt the way to go.

If you need a bit of inspiration to encourage you to head back to the 90s then check out Saved by the Bell, anyone who tells you this show was anything less than amazing will be telling you a lie. Apart from the mullets everything from this TV hit has re-emerged from printed trousers, flowery shirts and now the return of the men’s sweatshirt. So take your inspiration from the kids of the 90’s Zach and Screech (the shows two main male characters) and you will be right on track.

The current trend for men’s sweatshirts is to make them a little more dapper than previous years. With a looser shapeless silhouette, pair them with smart trousers such as chinos or coloured jeans rolled up at the ankle, for the ultimate sweatshirt style. Be sure to look out for the printed sweatshirts as these will make your wardrobe stand out and your style be sought after by others, so check out ASOS and Topman for your staple sweats. The simple ones will be great with a shirt collar poking out the top or under a jacket for a more formal look.

River Island have also put a spin on this trend by layering several different types of  men’ssweatshirts together to create a well presented and rather smooth ensemble for others to mimic. Start with a printed or quilted sweatshirt in a block colour then layer on top with a zipped sweatshirt then finish with a jacket to pull the outfit together.

Now really is the time to choose a sweater, be it printed, layered or zipped wear it with confidence.
